Right to Know Act - Requiring the NYPD to develop and provide guidance for its officers on obtaining consent to search individuals.
This bill would require the New York City Police Department to develop and provide guidance to its officers with respect to obtaining voluntary, knowing, and intelligent consent prior to conducting a search based solely on an individual’s consent. Officers would be required to record all consent search with their body worn camera, if available, and document all consent searches.
