Int 0412-2024
Notifying emergency contacts and attorneys of record when an individual in custody attempts suicide, is hospitalized, or is seriously injured.
This bill would require Correctional Health Services (“CHS”) to solicit authorization from an individual in custody of the Department of Correction to contact their attorney of record and emergency contact if the individual attempts suicide, is hospitalized, or is seriously injured. If one of these specified emergencies occurs, CHS must notify parties authorized by the individual to receive this information within 3 hours. The timeframe required for notification is extended if the emergency occurs during overnight hours.
