A Local Law to amend the New York city charter, in relation to requiring advice and consent of the council for the police commissioner
This bill would require the Police Commissioner to be confirmed by the Council. Within 10 days of a vacancy, the Mayor must submit a nominee to the Council. If the Council disapproves, the Mayor must submit a new nomination within 10 days of Council disapproval. The term limit of the Commissioner would also be changed from five years to four years.
