Requiring the dept of health and mental hygiene to implement an outreach campaign regarding court-ordered assisted outpatient treatment pursuant to the mental hygiene law and to provide assistance in filing a petition for assisted outpatient treatment.
A Local Law to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to requiring the department of health and mental hygiene to implement an outreach campaign regarding court-ordered assisted outpatient treatment pursuant to the mental hygiene law and to provide assistance in filing a petition for assisted outpatient treatment
This bill would require the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) to implement a campaign to inform the public about assisted outpatient treatment ordered by a court pursuant to section 9.60 of the New York State mental hygiene law, also known as Kendra’s Law, which allows certain people, including family members, to petition a court to mandate outpatient treatment for a person suffering from mental illness if certain criteria are satisfied. DOHMH would also be required to provide assistance to individuals who wish to file a Kendra’s Law petition in court, including guidance on how to complete the petition.
