A Local Law to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to penalties for leaving the scene of a construction workplace fatality without reporting.
This bill would enact the “Construction Workplace Fatality Accountability Act.” It would require the owner or manager of a business who either witnesses, was present for, or arrives immediately after an accident or act of violence that kills an employee, to remain present at the scene until he or she has been interviewed by the police. Leaving the scene would be a class A misdemeanor punishable by a term of imprisonment of not more than one year, a fine of not more than one thousand dollars, or both.
