Reporting on the racial and gender makeup of applicants for firefighter civil service examinations, and admission and graduation statistics from the probationary firefighter school.
A Local Law to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to reporting on the racial and gender makeup of applicants for firefighter civil service examinations, and admission and graduation statistics from the probationary firefighter school.
To become a firefighter with the Fire Department of the City of New York (“FDNY”), an applicant must pass multiple phases of testing and evaluation. This bill would require the FDNY to report on the gender and racial demographics of the applicant pool at every step of this process. The bill would require the FDNY to report these statistics for its most recent application period, and for each application period going forward on a yearly basis. The bill also requires the FDNY to report on its recruiting activities for the firefighter position, including its recruiting expenditures, a list of the recruiting events it attended, and a list of the preparatory materials it creates to assist firefighter applicants.
