Int 0826-2015
Civil penalties for illegal conversions of dwelling units from permanent residences.
This bill increases the penalty amount that the Department of Buildings (DOB) can issue when an owner is found to have illegally converted a dwelling unit that is classified for permanent residential use. The civil penalties will now range from $10,000 to $50,000 for each violation. In addition, a $2,000 civil penalty can be issued for each day that the violation is not corrected.
